GET INVOLVED
There are many exciting opportunities for students to become actively engaged in stopping sexual violence. Depending on the level of commitment you are willing and able to make, you may pick the activity that works best for you.
- Become Critically Engaged: It may not sound like much, but it is the first and most important step in becoming an ally against sexual violence. This may include becoming aware of the language you use when discussing women, sex, and rape (among other topics). Attempting to understand why we talk about and maintain certain ideas about groups of people can be instrumental to stopping the sexism, racism, classism, ableism and ageism that contribute to sexual assault.
- Join a Student Group: The nationally recognized group
PAVE, Promoting Awareness and Victim Empowerment has started a chapter on the DePaul campus! For more information about joining, please contact SVSS
Coordinator
Alicia Oeser or
Gabe Wright in Housing Services. Students may also want to check out
SAFER campus for ideas to stay active on their campus.
- Volunteer for SVSS: The office of Sexual Violence Support Services would be happy to have volunteers who can commit to regular hours (of their choosing) on both the Loop and Lincoln Park Campuses. Volunteers may assist with office work, planning activities, and program development.
- Become a Peer Educator: The peer educator program operates out of SVSS. Students are trained at the beginning of the quarter to participate in future programming requests from professors, student groups, and community allies. There are several different programs educators will learn to present on, all relating to sexual violence. Educators will go to an event in pairs, always with a supervisor present, to ensure their maximum comfort. Educators may be male or female students. To learn more about this program or to apply, please fill out the following forms and e-mail them to SVSS
Coordinator
Alicia Oeser.
