Survivors Not Statistics.
Sexual Assault can affect anyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation,
race, class or religion. It is a human issue that impacts us all. The only
way to stop it, is to understand it.
Be informed. Speak up. Get consent.
The office of Sexual Violence Support Services (SVSS) has
two primary goals in serving the University community:
1) First, we hope to identify and address the many ways sexual
violence directly affects DePaul students.
To this end, we provide support services to those
students directly impacted by sexual violence.
The scope of sexual violence we address ranges from
dating and relationship violence, to acquaintance rape,
to assault by a stranger. It is the policy of SVSS to
ensure that all services, including whether or not to report
an incident; how to utilize University resources; and to offer
referrals are provided in strict accordance with the wishes of
the survivor. The University policy on Sexual Offense can be found
here.
2) In addition, we believe prevention and education
to be central to our work. By reaching out to student
and community groups we hope to bring the message of sexual
violence to the forefront of conversation. The more people
know about how and why sexual violence occurs, the more effectively
it can be stopped. We hope to engage students to become an active
part of this process by training them in outreach for their peers and
allowing them an opportunity to serve as educators.
