Department of Residential Education

The mission of the Department of Residential Education is to connect students with learning opportunities in an academic residential community. Through connections with students and others Residential Education supports the University's Vincentian Values. The department devotes its time talent and resources to the pursuit of academic excellence respect for diversity, and civic responsibility.

The Department of Residential Education seeks to provide students the opportunity to achieve growth and development by:
  • Enhancing students' respect and appreciation for their selves and one another;
  • Assisting students in making healthy and responsible choices in relation to alcohol, drugs, sexuality and wellness;
  • Increasing the academic learning potential of students;
  • Engaging collaboratively with other faculty, staff, students and the broader community.


Leadership Opportunities Include:

  • Resident Assistants (RA)
    1. Reporting to a residence director, the resident advisor is a part-time student staff member. The RA works in a residential community and has specific responsibility for working with students in his/her community. She/he is the primary facilitator for the development of community in his/her specified area. Principal duties and responsibilities include the cultivation of relationships with students in the residential community through regular contact, floor meetings, and duty rounds; Planning and implementing educational opportunities consistent with department requirements; Responding to student issues to provide student conflict resolution, and acting on crises as they occur; Maintaining regular communications with supervisor; Attending regularly scheduled staff meetings, 1-1 meetings, pre-employment training, fall and winter training sessions and ongoing departmental training programs; Awareness of updates in order to and appropriately disseminate information to residents; and collaboration with other student housing units in support of hall openings, winter break housing, room changes, and building closings.

      • Decision Letters Available - Later Winter Quarter or Early Spring Quarter

  • Residence Hall Council (RHC)
    1. The purpose of RHC is to facilitate the social, educational and personal growth of all residents; to act as a liaison between residents and the administration; and, to aid in maintaining the best possible environment for all residents. RHC acts as the student legislative, governing and programming body for the residence halls. RHC members participate in the selection of community/resident advisors and live-in staff members. RHC annually sponsors numerous activities throughout the academic year. Residents can rent microwaves, refrigerators, and lofts through RHC during the summer for the upcoming academic year. The Executive Board members include: President, VP Treasurer, Secretary, Activities Director, Marketing Director, and Communications Coordinator.
