Workshop Descriptions
Discovering The Leader In You (Core Workshop)
This workshop explores how the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator can be used to learn ways that personality influences leadership styles. Further, you will define the style that works most for you and how it will improve your interpersonal performance. Competencies include Team Building, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Overcoming Obstacles.
Leadership Concepts And Practices (Core Workshop)
An introduction and exploration of a variety of leadership models and their useful applications. Competencies include Strategic Thinking and Vision and Alignment.
Leadership As Service (Core Workshop)
Participants will be provided with an alternative model for taking personal
initiative and exercising personal and community leadership in our contemporary
society, especially in the area of community service and non-profit organizations.
Competencies include Interpersonal Effectiveness, Communication, and Vision and Alignment.
Reflective Practice (Core Workshop)
Reflective practice deals with critical strategies for acquiring a fuller understanding of self and others
through reflection on daily activities. Participants also will understand how reflection can impact one's
life and leadership goals. * Please note: There is a 4 hour community service pre-requisite for this workshop.

Alumni Panel
A panel of DePaul alumni will share their thoughts on how being a DePaul student leader has
been beneficial in their current professional lives. Please come prepared with any questions
you have related to the transition from student to professional.
Business Etiquette
The Business Etiquette workshop will equip you with a general knowledge of how to act in
social outings and while at the office. In addition to open floor discussion, you will
interact with others and complete hands on activities.
Civic Engagement
Being civically engaged is a key component of effective leadership. Participants will interact with others
to challenge their ideas about being civically engaged, in addition to seeking innovative ways to influence
civic change through leadership.
Coffee and Conversation: EthicsDialogues facilitated by VOICES Project Student Leaders
In a world cafe format, students will dialogue about issues surrounding socially responsible
leadership on a deeper level. Specific areas of focus may include topics such as leadership ethics
in the workplace, living one’s values post-graduation, or civic engagement.
Conducting Effective Meetings
This workshop will focus on goal setting, developing group guidelines, planning an agenda and
problem-solving within meetings. There will also be a focus on the way group dynamics can impact
the effectiveness of a meeting.
Creating a Motivating Environment
This program looks at various work place obstacles impacting employee motivation and offers techniques and
ideas that can lift morale, creativity and team-building to an all-time high!
Creativity and Leadership
This workshop examines the tools of creativity and innovation as well as how these concepts work to develop
successful organizations.
Dealing with Difficult Personalities
Explores a variety of practices and techniques for negotiating with difficult individuals within an organization.
Developing and Managing a Leadership Portfolio
Enable yourself to synthesize, organize, document and present all of the accomplishments, abilities,
skills and education learned through your academic and leadership experiences.
Effectively Giving and Receiving Feedback
This workshop will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to give and receive feedback as
a means of increasing effective communication.
Global Perspectives on Leadership
Globalization, immigration, and the events of Sept. 11 brought to our attention the importance of
cross-cultural leadership. Participants will explore cultural diversity and leadership performance
from a global perspective.
Iron Chef Competition
In a fun, interactive session, engage in an "Iron Chef" cooking competition - just like on TV!
Conversation will follow connecting the activity to leadership, but the majority of time will
be spent preparing creative dishes in a competitive setting.
Leadership Ethics
Examine the role ethics play in leadership through the use of case studies, definitions and virtues.
Participants will engage in constructive dialogue and simulations focused on ethical issues.
Leadership Succession
Come learn the necessary tools to effectively transition responsibilities from one person or group to another.
Learn how to prepare throughout your term in office or your time at a new employer to effectively manage
role transitions.
Listen Up! Leadership and Listening
Good leaders are good listeners. Learn how to listen to yourself and the people around you in this hands-on
skill building workshop.
Mentoring
Mentoring relationships play a key role in developing oneself both personally and professionally. Find out
more about how and why to establish and maintain a mentoring relationship.
Peace Building Leadership
This workshop explores leadership practices of historical and contemporary leaders internationally
known for their works on peace, social justice, and conflict resolution.
Management
This workshop will focus on understanding the elements needed for driving successful project
management and effective event planning. Participants will understand how leveraging people,
overcoming obstacles and problem solving.
Public Policy: Leadership in a Political Context
Participants will learn about initiating social change in bureaucratic and/or political settings.
Public Speaking
Do you get nervous before speaking in front of groups? Not sure how to prepare? We will examine
effective oral communication: exploring elements such as preparation, style, context, and audience.
Requesting a Letter of Recommendation
This workshop focuses on the process of requesting a letter of recommendation for purposes such
as scholarships, job opportunities, or higher education.
Strategic Planning and Personal Goal Setting
This workshop explores various planning techniques that enhance one's ability to forecast
the needs and demands of the community and/or group in which you are working.
Stress Management
Would you like to avoid or eliminate stress? This workshop will feature interactive discussion and activities
that provide tools and tips for stress management.

Participants will learn the stages of group development and techniques for building successful teams.

that focus on evaluating and planning your time, prioritizing, increasing your effectiveness and much more.
Understanding Privilege and Leading with Responsibility
An important part of being an effective leader is understanding your own identity as a person that has
a race, gender, and socio-economic class. Learn about your own identity and how this has an impact on
how and why you lead.
Using Your Interpersonal Leadership Style in the Workplace
This workshop uses the FIRO-B® personality assessment to identify needs/wants regarding your interpersonal work style. Results from this assessment will help you gain additional insight about your leadership style to help you work more strategically.
Vincentian Leadership
Vincentian Leadership identifies unique characteristics that integrate servant leadership with effective organizational skills.
Volunteer Management
This workshop focuses on skills and techniques for guiding organizations composed primarily of volunteers.
Women as Leaders
This interactive workshop will explore communication styles, leadership styles, group dynamics, gender differences, and how women can develop their own styles of effective leadership.
