Residential
Programs
Numerous opportunities for involvement exist in the residence halls. Opportunities are based on student needs and interests. Therefore, they change from time to time. However, at this point
two opportunities remain constant they are listed below.
Residence Hall Council
Theme Communities
Residence Hall Council
The Residence Hall Council (RHC) consists of current residents of campus housing who have been elected by their peers. The purpose of RHC is: to facilitate the social, educational and personal growth of all residents; to act as a liaison between residents and the administration; and, to aid in maintaining the best possible environment for all residents. RHC acts as the student legislative, governing and programming body for the residence halls.
RHC members participate in the selection of resident advisors (RAs) and live-in staff members. RHC annually sponsors an orientation for new students and numerous activities throughout the academic year. Residents can rent microwaves, refrigerators and lofts through RHC during the summer for the upcoming academic year. The RHC office is located in the basement of University Hall (B-14), (773-325-7233). For more information please visit
Residence Hall Council website.
Theme Communities
As a component of the Department of
Residential
Education, each Theme Community is comprised of students who share a common interest and have the opportunity to live together to explore and promote their theme. Theme Communities provide new and interesting experiential learning opportunities while fostering leadership and community interaction. These thriving communities enrich the participants' college experience and benefit the campus community through the sharing of knowledge, dedication, and events about each theme.
All Theme Communities are located in the University Apartment Communities. The Theme Communities are expected to coordinate at least three programs related to their theme per quarter as well as one community service project during the academic year. Each Theme Community must also have a House Manager and a House Advisor. House Managers meet regularly in individual and group meetings with Residential Education staff. The House advisor is a faculty/staff member who serves as a resource, support person, and organization advisor.
