Theme Community Mission Statement
The Department of Residential Education has established the Theme Community program to enhance community development and student learning within the residence halls. This environment, structured around a common interest, seeks to create a powerful educational experience while further developing students as socially responsible leaders. Living in a Theme Community will provide students with a greater sense of affinity for DePaul University and residence hall experience. Descriptions of Theme Community Living Options
We are excited to offer the opportunity of living in a theme community to first year students for the 2009 - 2010 academic year. This choice to live with peers that share a similar goal or interest is a unique one and strictly optional. Please read the descriptions to see which community is the best fit for you. You must apply to be considered for any of our four theme communities.
Living Well: (Located in Clifton Fullerton Hall)
This Living Well theme community supports an environment of creating and maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit. This applies to residents of the community and their guests. Through programs and activities this community facilitates opportunities for students to explore six dimensions of wellness, including emotional, environmental, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual wellness. We believe that student wellness influences student success. The Department of Campus Recreation is our on-campus partner who works closely with this theme community.

L.E.A.D. - Leadership Exploration At
DePaul (Located in University Hall) This Leadership Exploration at DePaul (L.E.A.D) theme community focuses on student leadership on campus and in the community. It is designed for students who are committed to developing themselves as socially responsible leaders. Students will have the opportunity to become involved as soon as they move in. Within the community, a focus will be placed on providing information regarding ways to get involved and develop as leaders who are committed to civic engagement and service. Floor programming will be targeted at helping students to explore different types and styles of leadership. Students will be guided on how to empower habits that support a commitment to effective leadership. The Student Leadership Institute is our on-campus partner who works closely with this theme community.

HOUSE- Home of Urban Service and Experience (Located in Seton Hall) Do you want to have fun, make a difference, and meet cool people?
The HOUSE theme community empowers students to live out the mission of DePaul. Students will serve the urban community, especially those who are marginalized, while exploring the city. Through reflection, students will grow in their sense of purpose and their leadership skills.
HOUSE encourages students to learn from each other about diverse perspectives on values and meaning in the context of service. The Residence Hall Chaplain and University Ministry work closely with this program to provide opportunities for our students in HOUSE, including service immersion experiences and spiritual development.

Common Purposes (Located in Munroe Hall) The Common Purposes theme community is committed to the exploration of racial & ethnic identity development, understanding racial & ethnic cultural differences and similarities. This environment is dedicated to providing its community members a safe, nonjudgmental space where all members share a passion for intercultural dialogue that promotes a better understanding and acceptance of all people.
This theme community is available for students who have an appreciation and desire to know more about different races and cultures. It is open to all students who wish to become more knowledgeable about diversity. Acceptance and a willingness to learn about others is an important characteristic of all who live here.

- Residents will be able to demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity as it relates to who and where they are as individuals.
- Will gain the ability to articulate the significance of culture in their individual lives, and educate others about what living with a common purpose means.
- Theme related activities and resources from on Campus Partners and Resident Advisors in and out of the halls.

Basic Expectations & Requirements of Theme Community Members
Remain in Good Standing. Each member of the theme community must maintain a minimum of 2.25 GPA and be in good judicial standing with the university.
Attend community meetings. All theme community members must attend the designated meetings. Theme related activities and resources from on Campus Partners and Resident Advisors in and out of the halls.
Adhere to campus policies. All theme community members must adhere to the policies and procedures of the university as outlined in The Code of Student Responsibility and The Guide to Student Housing.
Designate and Maintain Leadership and Members. Each theme community will appoint a Theme Leader/Leader(s). The Theme Leader(s) serves as the liaison to university offices and administration for the theme community. The Theme Leader(s) will work closely with the Resident Advisor on the floor/wing and Coordinator of Theme Communities (CTC).
Fulfill Community Requirements. Each theme community is required to create one campus-wide program related to their theme each quarter. All theme community members will assist with promoting theme community programs.
Each member must attend the Theme Community Orientation at the beginning of Fall Quarter.
