Charity is not charity if not
accompanied by justice.
Be ever ready to inconvenience yourself in order to
accommodate others.
~St. Vincent de Paul
DePaul fosters a
community that knows that our diverse beliefs and
values help our community to recognize and serve the
common good inside and outside of the university.
~Fr. Udovic,

its students’ lifelong commitment to social justice
and civic engagement.
~Vision twenty12
Social
responsibility is not only the awareness of one’s
surroundings, but one’s duty to help the
underprivileged around us and make our society a
better place. ~DePaul Freshman
Together let us build a humane world
~DePaul
Faculty Member
I feel wholly responsible to the world in which I work and live. It is my duty as a human to uphold these beliefs and to make improvements whenever possible.
I am
pledging because social responsibility is a fundamental element of leadership
and I am committed to being a leader in all my endeavors. If we are to become
leaders in society, then we must take action to quell the inequalities and
injustices that infect our communities and society as a whole. Pledging can only
help reinforce the values that have been imprinted on me as a student-leader at
DePaul University.
~Mark J. I.
Bruno 2008 Commerce Bachelors
I'm
pledging because I have a huge concern for people and the environment we live
in. I want to be able to work and live in an ethical society that takes into
consideration living in peace and love. I want to live in a world that values
respect for life and that cares for humans, animals, and nature. I want to set
the example for others to follow and make of this world a better place to live.
~Guadalupe

As someone
committed to a life of service after I graduate from college, taking a pledge of
social responsibility helps keep me focused on my beliefs. Behaving in a manner
that shows solidarity with the world will benefit everyone and begin a
revolution in the way we think about our planet.
~Molly Hahn

The whole Vincentian way at DePaul has impacted my life. It may be a huge task to change
the world, but if we start small and change our community, then changing the
world does not seem like such an impossible task. DePaul shapes their students
in a way that educates and trains them to leave DePaul with a bright mind,
ethical standards, and compassion for others less fortunate than ourselves.
~Arica
Smith 2008 Communications Bachelors
I'm taking
this pledge because I want to continue to hold myself to the standards I have
set in my life and do my best to communicate to others what I have been so
blessed to learn. Social responsibility is something we continuously have to
work on because there is no end or limit to it, and I want this to be another
step I'm taking in the right direction.
~Panagiota
Cherekos 2008 Communications Bachelors
I'm
pledging because these qualities of humanitarianism, environmentalism and social
responsibility are qualities and I have and cherish the most. It is with this

no matter how controversial or ordinary the subject while taking the previously
mentioned qualities into full consideration.

Hassan 2008 Education Bachelors
I am
pledging because the one thing I know to be true after my time at DePaul is that
we are all humans with the same basic needs. As a future educator, it is my
responsibility to provide those basic needs and advocate for those who have no
voice. There are individuals who were born into privilege, but with this
privilege come a greater sense of responsibility. I pledge to be eternally
grateful for my privileges and do everything in my power to nourish the human
dignity of those that do not have my same privileges.
~Joshua
Stein 2008 Education Masters
I am
pledging because I feel that social responsibility is an important part of
growing up and graduating into being an active participant in life. If one does
not consider social responsibility in their decisions, it will lead to a grand
sense of ignorance and isolation in society.
~Alyson

betterment and/or advancement of this world.
~Ashley E.

I feel,
that as a hard of hearing individual, I live this pledge, in all of it's
aspects, in my daily life. I have been working hard to become a leader in my
community for the hard of hearing. I share my life learning with others with the
hopes to make their roads a little less bumpy then mine was. I strive to
inspire others to continue chasing their dreams and not allow their disability
to hold them back. I believe that even with a disability you can have the
career that you desire and not just a job to pay the bills. I have achieved a
Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in Communications and I am hard of
hearing. I think that says enough.
~Pamela

St.
Theresa of Calcutta has a saying that serves as a reminder to be intentional on
how I live my life. She says, at the end of life we will not be judged by how
many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great
things we have done. We will be judged by 'I was hungry and you gave me to eat,
I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.' Hungry not
only for bread - but hungry for love, naked not only for clothing - but naked
for human dignity and respect, homeless not only for want of a room of bricks -
but homeless because of rejection. We should make a difference for others as we
journey through life, we should touch lives with our actions, not so much our
words. This is why I am pledging, because I want to be the one to feed the
hungry, to help the poor, and be a voice for the voiceless. Because I have been
there.
~Maria
Carmen Rivera 2008 School of New Learning Bachelors
