S.T.A.R.S is a voluntary program designed to assist first year students of color with their transition to the DePaul University Community. First-year students are paired with an upperclassman who will act as a peer mentor to the student, helping them navigate the DePaul system for the full academic year. Additionally, the peer mentor is responsible for promoting the guiding principles of OMSA which are; Academic Enhancement, Cultural Engagement, Leadership Development, Self-Authorship and Ongoing Developmental Outreach. This retention program supports the mission of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs by helping to create a positive DePaul experience for first-year students and their families. It specifically targets students of an underrepresented group such as Latino/a, Asian American, Native American, and African American students, however it is open to all interested students.
