Office
of the Vice President
Biography:
Since he became Vice President for Student Affairs in 1982, Jim Doyle has led the Student Affairs Division in the transformation of DePaul University from a commuter school to a highly functional, residential campus. Doyle has answered the needs of increasingly enrolled students by significantly expanding student services and programs throughout the University.
In addition, he has also responded to student needs by overseeing the construction of the $25 million Student Center, the $15 million Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center (nationally recognized by "Athletic Business" magazine as "Facility of the Year" in 2000) and the $11 million Athletic Center facility used as a training center for DePaul's NCAA Division I athletes.
Under the direction of Doyle, Student Affairs has collaborated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to create the First Year Program offered to new and transfer students to acclimate them to both college life and the urban setting of the University. The First Year Program has been nationally recognized for its innovation and academic partnership by the National Resource Center for the Freshman Year Experience at the University of South Carolina. Doyle has also led the division in the creation of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and has established a variety of services to support minority and first generation students at DePaul.
Doyle is currently a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and American College Personnel Association and has done accreditation work for The Western Association of Schools and Colleges. He is also a trustee of the O'Brien/Vrba Scholarship Committee.
