Welcome!
The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender,
Questioning, and Allies (LGBTQA) Student Services at
DePaul University exists to serve the needs of
self-identified LGBTQA students at DePaul by providing
LGBTQA-specific services, programs, and events to the
entire university community.
A belief in the
resilience of LGBTQA individuals underscores all that we
do. This belief reflects a commitment to challenging
traditional deficit-based approaches to serving the
needs of LGBTQA individuals. Instead of focusing
exclusively on how LGBTQA individuals at DePaul are
struggling, we give equal attention and effort to
learning about and supporting how they are succeeding.
In all we do, we recognize the multiplicity of human
sexual expression and gender identity and their
interplay with other identities, including race,
ethnicity, class, and religion.
The ultimate goal
of our office is to help make DePaul University a safe,
welcoming, validating, and nurturing educational and
professional environment for all people, regardless of
sexual attraction, orientation, and/or identity and
gender expression and/or identity. We envision a DePaul
where bias and prejudice (e.g., homophobia and
heterosexism) do not undermine the educational
experiences of its students or the tenets of DePaul
University’s Vincentian mission. Our services, programs,
and events are open to all members of the DePaul
community regardless of sexual attraction, orientation,
and/or identity or gender expression and/or identity.
