Matters
International students should be familiar with basic laws affecting their non-immigrant F-1 or J-1 visa status. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 places a particular emphasis on the need for students to take responsibility for maintaining their lawful student status. It is critical that students in F-1 and J-1 visa status maintain their lawful status throughout their program of study. Remember, maintenance of your lawful non-immigrant student status is your responsibility alone. Our office is committed to educating you about U.S. federal regulations affecting non-immigrant students in F-1 and J-1 visa status and providing you with the resources necessary for you to make well-informed and responsible decisions.
We invite you to read through these pages and call the ISO at 312-362-8376 for additional information, questions and/or advice.
