Mission

The Cultural Center uses artistic expression and intellectual inquiry to engage students, faculty and staff in transformative cultural educational experiences that create common cultural understandings, values and practices. The programs and services provided by the Cultural Center seek to strengthen the University’s Catholic, Vincentian and urban mission in support of social justice within the DePaul community.

The Cultural Center will facilitate programs and services that enable DePaul University students, faculty and staff to think broadly and critically about cultural identity and adopt strategies to confront systems that do not recognize the dignity of the individual.

Goal Statements

1.      The Cultural Center will provide cultural programs that celebrate diversity and explore the histories, cultural artifacts, customs, beliefs, and values of the diverse communities at the university.

2.      The Cultural Center will provide educational programs that will contribute to community and a sense of belonging among students, staff and faculty.

3.      The Cultural Center will showcase the cultural research work of student, faculty and staff.

4.      The Cultural Center will provide financial support and mentoring to student organizations that work directly with the Center.

5.      The Cultural Center will encourage and support student leaders to advocate for social change that impacts the lives of marginalized individuals and groups.

6.      The Cultural Center will provide a safe haven for student leaders to discuss cultural issues that impact governance, individual and group identity, organization membership and programming.
