Panel Discussion (Hispanic Heritage) Click on the images to enlarge them)

The Cultural Center hosted a panel discussion surrounding the labels of Latino/a, Hispanic and Afro-Latino/a. Our panelists included Dr. Javier Orozco from University Ministry, Dr. Jacqueline Lazu from the Department of Modern Languages and Dr. Rafael Arias-Hernandez from the Department of Sociology. Each panelist brought a unique perspective to the discussion and helped to facilitate lively conversation among the many people in attendance.

The students that attended the session left several comments about how they were inspired to share what they learned about the Latino community. They had a chance to learn about the how inequalities in our society are impacted by the divisions in society. They also learned of the systems of power that impacted identity formation in culture, such as literary reviews that are misrepresented or misleading.
