The Cultural Center, in
collaboration with the Office of Academic Enhancement,
hosted the Annual Fall Kick-Off Concert featuring Angel
Melendez and The 911 Mambo Orchestra. The band shared
their award winning talent of performing modern tropical
sounds to traditional Mambo of the 50s in a performance
of Latin music in the Quad. Students and staff enjoyed
the beautiful sounds from the band during a picnic, and
even had the chance to learn to dance to different
styles of salsa, courtesy of Ritmo Dembow Latin Dance
Group from DePaul University. Students stated how they
enjoyed the music and the friendliness of the student
dance instructors. This concert resembled a musical
glimpse of the Latino/Hispanic community in Chicago for
students to become more culturally inclined to learn
about diversity.
